A New Season of Jazz at BuckingJam Palace!

By Jon McCaslin on September 5, 2019

Welcome to the BuckingJam Palace blog!

On the heels of last year's successful and sold-out season, we are only a month away from the beginning of yet another exciting season of amazing jazz concerts here at BuckingJam Palace.

We'll be blogging here on a regular basis from now on, offering updates on upcoming concerts as well as in-depth features and interviews with the world-class artists that will be performing at Calgary's hippest jazz venue.

Here's a taste of what's coming up at BuckingJam Palace in the coming months:

Saturday, October 5th (two shows: 2pm & 8pm) - Mike LeDonne's Groover Quartet

B3 Hammond organist Mike LeDonne brings his New York quartet to Calgary for a rare appearance featuring Eric Alexander on tenor saxophone, Peter Bernstein on guitar and Joe Farnsworth on drums. This band has been performing  at New York's Smoke Jazz club on a regular basis for many years now and will be sure to bring its polished and hard swinging New York sound to Calgary for two special shows to launch our 2019-20 season.

Thursday, October 10 (8pm) - The Hoffman-Lemish Quartet

Pianist Noam Lemish and guitarist/oud player Amos Hoffman are long-time collaborators and their music features unique interpretations of traditional Jewish folk melodies through a contemporary Jazz lens.

Sunday, October 20 (two shows: 2pm & 8pm) - Mike Allen with Peter Washington & Lewis Nash

Vancover tenor saxophonist Mike Allen brings his all-star trio to Calgary featuring bassist Peter Washington and drummer Lewis Nash, perhaps one of THE most prolific bass/drum teams in modern Jazz times. Do NOT miss this opportunity to hear three Jazz masters up close and personal. Allen recently released his album Just Like Magic on the Cellar Live label with this band and these two shows will certainly be just that...Jazz magic!

Friday, November 1 (8pm) - Jodi Proznick's Sun Songs

Following her recent 2019 Juno nomination in the Best Vocal Jazz category, Vancouver bassist and composer Jodi Proznick will perform music from her acclaimed album Sun Songs featuring vocalist Katherine Penfold.

Saturday, November 9 (8pm) - Lorna MacLachlan

Local pianist, vocalist and composer Lorna MacLachlan brings her quintet to BuckingJam Palace, celebrating the music from her most recent release Bicycle Riding in the Dark.
